Spanish ceramic tile industry leads the obtaining of AENOR GlobalEPD sustainable product eco-labels.

On 29th November eleven major ceramic tile manufacturers in the Castellón cluster received the Environmental Product Declaration AENOR GlobaEPD certification, making the ceramic industry in our region a leader in terms of obtaining eco-labels at national level. Some of the companies that obtained this certification are:  Ceracasa, Peronda, Azulev, Ceramica Ribesalbes, GayaforesKeraben and Azteca, as well as Vives Ceramica and Colorker, which had already obtained this eco-label.

Ceracasa with sustainable product BionicTile
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a system of European eco-labelling of products in the construction sector which can certify the environmental impact throughout the life cycle of products and eco-efficient manufacturing process. Specifically, the DAP is a type III ecolabel pioneer in Spain which is already applied in other countries such as Norway, Canada, Japan , South Korea , Germany, Holland , Switzerland and France, and is under establishment in Denmark and Italy.

Representatives of the companies awarded EPD certification
The AENOR GlobalEPD program, which allows obtaining Environmental Product Declarations , is currently a voluntary certification system , but it can become a very important factor for companies or sectors in order to promote competitiveness against competition from other countries and facilitate access to markets with a higher level of environmental awareness in the international arena.

Peronda's EPD certification
The Spanish industry of ceramic wall and floor tiles is aware of the capacity of ceramic coverings as a material to build a more sustainable architecture. Recently they launched a website (www.spaintiles.info/eco) with the aim of informing about the characteristics of ceramic tiles, showing examples of sustainable projects , disseminating the studies carried out in R & D, and presenting the ceramic latest innovations in terms of sustainability.

Ceramic tiles by Vives Ceramica in national and international architecture projects

Along the year 2013 Vives Cerámica has dressed with its products a number of construction projects both nationally and internationally. Hotels, restaurants and shopping centers have relied on the design, versatility, style and performance of the newest ceramic coverings by Vives to coat walls, floors, façades and common areas.

International projects

The Villa Sandini Spa Hotel, located in Sandim, Portugal and designed with an innovative chic-rustic style after the renovation of a whole ancient building, chose Polinesia Collection by Vives Cerámica for its exteriors: Moorea-R tile, White and Brown, is a wood look anti-slip porcelain tile ideal for wet areas.

Some styles just can’t help but resist the test of time. Without doubt, the 60’s are a prime example. They have managed to reproduce this style in Sölvesborg (Sweden) in this restaurant called “Bella’s Diner & Bar”. A key element to achieving this desired look was VIVES 20x20cm red body Alaska, Negro and Rojo Volcan floor tiles.

Next project takes us to Vilnius (Lithuania). The Civic Grafito (60x120cm) large format has been used in this shopping centre called “Aprangos Galerija” where cement is the inspiration.

Xara Lodge is an events complex for weddings, shows etc. located in a traditional house in the Maltese countryside near Rabat-Mdina. For its decoration Vives Titan series (Paros, Mara, Unsu, Uriel and Comodo) have been used, resulting in a design which brings together both tradition and modernity with a balance and with outstanding beauty.

Located inPrague, we find this elegant and casual restaurant which has also used VIVES materials for its creative decoration: The 1900 collection, resulting in a very distinctive and avant-garde style, appealing to the most cosmopolitan of customers.

Projects in Spain

The restaurant Farándula on the Spanish Costa Brava opened last year, of vintage style where industrial elements are mixed with some of the most traditional and classical such as solid woods. The materials used were 20x20 Aranjuez collection, specifically the products Yeles, Alcazar, Batres y Bargas for the wall covering and Güell-1 from the 1900 collection for the floors. In conclusion, the creativity used in the design and decoration within this premises shows the possibilities when different styles are brought together.

On the Galician Costa de Morte, Benboa restaurant has opened, as a fusion of various different concepts at the same time: restaurant and market. Vives have helped to decorate this innovative place by using the Mugat Blanco 10x20cm and the floor tiles: Orsa - 21x89 antislip C3 and Dorset marrón 31.6x31.6 cm.
The result has been a modern decoration which contrasts perfectly with the essence of the tradition served up.

Just a few metres from the Levante beach in Benidorm, the Hotel Ambassador Playa is located with its excellent facilities creating an ambience of relaxation and well-being. For the its new image they have used Vives tiles to create this atmosphere in the Explorers Club restaurant and café area: The1900 collection (Basalto, Gris, Calvet, Terrades, Llagostera y Gibert) gives a vintage style to the decoration helping replicate an old and traditional train station.

Castellon's Sisif bar & restaurant has recently opened its doors and has also used Vives ceramic tiles. This project shows the Montaner Azul tile which belongs to 1900 collection (20x20cm)combining it perfectly with the Blanco and Florentina tiles that are part of the same collection together with the wall tile Buril and Vano Marfil that comes from the Wäsel (20x50 cm.) collection. The bathrooms which also use our tiles combine the Buril and Vano Marfil, which also comes from the Wäsel (20x50 cm.) collection and the Ruhr Plomo (30x60 cm.) from the same range name. It is a restaurant and bar that has personality and character in which you can enjoy a delicious meal with great company and in great surroundings.

Ceracasa ceramica participated in a seminar on construction solutions to reduce air pollution.

Last 20th June an interesting seminar took place in Madrid, in the School of Civil Engineering, about air quality of our cities and the different solutions available to reduce air pollution, such as photocatalysis.

The seminar was organized by AIF, the Iberian Association of Photocatalysis, formed by big companies in various sectors, among which is Ceracasa. AIF has the support of scientific members such as EPTISA, ICP, AIDICO, ITQ, Tecnalia, CARTIF TECHNOLOGY CENTRE and other institutions that provide great value to the process of photocatalysis in the construction and rehabilitation.

The photocatalysis starts from the natural principle of decontamination of nature by eliminating most common pollutants by an oxidation process activated by sun energy.

Through photocatalysis, some of the pollutants as common as harmful existing in our cities can be eliminated: nitrogen oxides NOx, nitric acid, HNO3, O3, SOx, VOCs, CO, methyl mercaptan, chlorinated organic compounds and poly aromatics compounds.

The symposium was attended by leading speakers, and was coordinated by EPTISA: they all provided solutions and diverse opinions on this important topic.

Fran Raya from CERACASA, as Vice President of AIF's external relations, gave an interesting presentation on applications of decontaminating products called "The Photocatalytic Island".

Ceracasa counts among its ceramic product range with Bionictile®, a porcelain wall covering with photocatalytic properties, " ceramic facade which decontaminates the air", which has earned the company more than a dozen awards, both nationally and internationally.

Wide Castellon ceramic sector participation at Mosbuild exhibition in Russia

Spain, the world leader in technological development, design and quality of service in the ceramic industry, travels to Russia, third destination of ceramic tile sales, with 60 companies to participate at MOSBUILD exhibition.

Year 2012 has been very positive for the ceramic tile industry, which has managed to ride out the bad times, once again, conquering the international markets, with an increase of the foreign sales by 10% worldwide.

Leading the way in innovation

The focus on differentiation and international expansion has led the Spanish ceramic tile industry to become a world leader in the implementation of programs of R & D and innovation, in order to provide end-users and professional with high value products to respond to new market needs.

Our country is a pioneer in digital printing or home automation application of tiles. The Spanish sector has also developed motion or weight sensors for use in public buildings and sidewalks.

Spanish industry also stands out for its innovative approach applied to sustainable energy development, with the so-called active surfaces, sustainable pieces that incorporate technology to positively influence the environment where they are installed.

Furthermore, according to the National Association of Frit, Ceramic Glazes and Colours (Anfecc), Spain is the world leader, thanks to investments in R &
D in the field of ceramic frits and glazes, surpassing Italy, a country traditionally pioneer in the manufacture of these products.

Russia, a gold mine for Spanish exports

The great economic potential, significant growth plans and the large number of urban projects have boosted Russia as a priority destination for Spanish exports of ceramic tiles. The major construction projects for the coming years open a range of opportunities for our industry and have generated significant demand for building materials. The largest country in the world means 7.9% of total Spanish ceramic tile sector exports.

This favorable context for the sector will be the scenario for 60 Spanish companies of ceramic tiles and bathroom equipment, which will participate at MOSBUILD exhibition, within the CERSANEX frame. The 18th meeting of this annual event will be held in Moscow between 16th and 19th April. The Spanish industry participation is supported by ICEX and Tile of Spain.

The Spanish Pavilion, which has an area of 2,400 square meters, will feature 55 companies belonging to the ceramic tile and subsidiary industries sectors and other 5 of bathroom equipment. The vast majority comes from Castellón province and many are Globbarea Virtual Fair participants such as Azteca, Azulev / Sanchis, Ceracasa, Encrypt, Colorker, El Molino, Fritta, Gaya Fores, Oset Group, Kerajet, Peronda, Saloni, Tau, Vives and Zirconium.

During the course of the event, in the framework of the Spanish Official Pavilion, various promotional activities will take place, such as a press conference for journalists from design, interior design and architecture magazines which will be held on April 16, or the "Tile Story" Awards ceremony on the 17th April, promoted by Tile of Spain.

Ecoclay, natural organic covering for walls

Clay has been used to build spaces for more than 9.000 years. Nowadays this ancient material is getting its entire lost splendor back due to its countless benefits for our health and the comfort it provides. It is also one of the main materials used in ecological construction. Clay is one hundred per cent organic and can regulate humidity, increase energy saving due to its high thermal lag, improve odor absorption and be an efficient sound-proof.
Ecoclay is an innovative covering for walls which uses natural clays without additives as its base. The clays are obtained from a site in Teruel and are currently being used in bioconstruction because of its nameless technical and decorative qualities. ecoclay clay plaster can be used to obtain insulating effects or endless decorative possibilities that stand out for its originality. This versatility allows them to be present in diverse environments such as country houses, straw huts, aristocratic mansions or urban lofts.
ecoclay coverings are just perfect to isolate sensitive locations such as health centers, hospitals or schools due to the enormous benefits clay brings to any health environment. In addition, thanks to the clay being noise absorbent, it is the ideal solution in saturated acoustic zones. Clay naturally regulates relative humidity indoors.
